SEI Narita Walnut Corner Media Stand with Windowpane-Style Doors Review

I purchased the Narita Corner TV Stand (made by Southern Enterprises, Inc., model MS987100TX) through Amazon.com from totally Furniture on Feb 8, 2009. The stand was purchased to hold a Sony 46 Inch, Z Series LCD television, with the intent of using the inner storage space for components (Combination DVD Recorder/Player/VCR, and future Blue Ray Recorder/Player, along with media) The space is ample for those purposes. I am using little woven baskets inside the cabinet to hold the media on the shelves, which is working out well. The material of the cabinet is man-made "engineered" wood product, of extremely high quality. It looks virtually like fine wood, and is solid (not veneered) construction. It has anchors pre-installed from the factory that receive the Allen screws. The fit and finish of all pieces is excellent. The cabinet requires about 2 hours to assemble, taking your time, to get everything perfect. When completed, you cannot tell it was assembled, and looks like it was purchased in any fine furniture store. It is very strong, sturdy, very heavy. This tand would easily handle a 50 inch flat screen TV, or even larger, so far as weight goes, and the overhang would not be noticable, since it is a corner TV stand. (But could be used for a regular wall, and is finshed on the back) The design and construction of this product is remarkable, and will meet most people's expectations. One thing that I had not thought about was how the wood cross-hatch design of the doors would affect signals from the IR Remotes to the components inside, with the doors closed. This has turned out not to be a problem, and the components work fine with the doors closed. (Panasonic DVD Player/Recorder with VCR combo)

Side note. One piec was damaged when I performed assembly. (Cam-lock piece that holds the top in place on one corner) I requested a replacement from SEI thorugh their e-mail address for support on lost, missing or broken parts, but never received a reply. It was not a critical component, and doesn't show (it's only to secure the top, which is also secured by other fasteners), so I dropped the matter.

If you buy this stand, be careful not to use too much force on the Cam-lock part. It is rather soft pot-metal, and will easily bend instead of going properly into place. That was my problem.

Sonax WB-1489 Washington 48-Inch Wood Veneer TV/Component Bench Review

The packaging was very well done, with sturdy corner protectors along all four long edges of the box and the internal styrofoam keeping all the pieces separated and well protected. The individual pieces arrived intact and unscratched. The hardware packages contained all necessary parts and were well labeled.

The appearance of the unit when assembled looks more like true hardwood furniture than MDF with laminate so they've done an excellent job with relatively low cost materials. The doors and drawers all work well without sticking or other issues.

Assembly is fairly time consuming, budget between 90 minutes and two hours but if you follow the directions you should have no problems. The only thing I'd caution is when you install the drawers for the first time make sure they go into the guides correctly. I was in a hurry and missed that at first and was concerned that the unit was defective before realizing that it was my mistake.

The English instructions were clear without the translation errors often seen.

Overall I would rate this as a very good value for the cost and I'm very pleased with the purchase.

I bought this rack to mount onto a 19" wide rack mount tower that I have mounted all my audio and video equipment. The spacing on this rack was just right to mount to my rack without any modification. I then mounted a smaller LG LCD TV to the bracket with some modification because the TV didn't have the correct mounting capabilities, this was an oversight on my part. With that said, just be sure you have the right mounting capabilities on both the TV and the bracket.

This is an extremely well made and handsome looking item. I would have given it 5 stars except that the rear of the unit is supported on the raw ends of the wooden vertical supporting members. I had to run to the hardware store to get self-adhesive felt cushions to put on the cut ends of the wood so that they would not scratch the floor when moved. The unit is strong, heavy, solid and assembles easily. Two people are required for one or two of the steps. I'm a little concerned about the durability of the center shelf, which is only glass. (The top and bottom shelves are glass supported by wood.) The curved metal legs of the stand are less a gun metal color than a slightly lighter black. Overall very happy with this Stand.
