Ellis Trunk TV Lift Cabinet Review

As the other reviewer stated, this was also a splurge purchase for us, although I did not pay $2,000. We were fortunate enough to get one from a local studio who used it on set for $800.

The trunk is absolutely awesome, although it is very tall. We have it at the foot of our bed and it's BIG, but it works in the space. The lift mechanism inside is heavy duty and sealed. I imagine it will outlive me. The trunk is SUPER SUPER heavy. It took four people to move it upstairs, but that's because it is a solid piece furniture made of real hard wood, and of course the steel mechanism inside.

The design is fairly well thought out. their are openings through the floor of the trunk to run your cables. The lid automatically opens and closes as the TV comes up and down. A simple two button remote is included. This trunk is exceptionally useful for us in that there is a shelf that also goes up and down that we can set our devices on. Also, the entire front has removable panels that come on and off in a matter of seconds in case you need to access inside - which yo do to organize the cables and run them through the floor.

There is a variety of connections inside for high end amplifiers and also two switched outlets that allow you to turn your devices on and off automatically as the TV lifts up and down. This is the one flaw I have with this and part of the reason I took a star off. There should be at least one "unswitched" outlet. The problems is it completely cuts power to the TV and my DirecTV box. Not a problem with the TV, but my DirecTV box needs juice so it can record programs. Also - the box has to go through the entire set up procedure every time we want to turn the TV on which takes a good ten minutes. While there are obvious ways around this, it completely defeats the purpose of providing power inside the trunk to begin with.

The seocnd reason I took a star off is the leather covering itself. while it is a beautiful finish, it is very thin leather that can easily tear. We don't have any cats, but if we did, I would have much fear for the sides of the trunk. Even moving it carefully upstairs, we managed to get some small scratches that do not want to come out. At this price level ($2000+), I would expect a more sturdy leather covering. All in all - a great purchase and we are very happy with it.

I usually like all products I get, and its true, I do like this product...once I got it built. Putting it together required more than I was prepared for. There are 4 pictures to look at only. When you are putting the shelves on, you must do it with the rack upside down which means someone must hold the shelves in place when another person screws them in. Screwing them in is no walk in the park. The other racks are right on top of the tiny little holes that are starters. Luckily, I had a friend over who had an attachment for a power drill which meant I could do it from the side in an "L" style while putting the screws in. Im not saying its impossible, but I could not even come close to doing it with a screw driver. I could barely do it with a power drill, but then again, I admit this isnt my strong suit.

The good: Once its built, it is really a nice audio rack. Set it up on the side of the wall next to a mounted tv over the fire place. I am glad I got this rack, and even more glad that I was able to get it built without breaking it...I did break off two screws into each rack. Also, be careful when putting racks on. There are little holes that should face backwards so you can put the plate on the back...I didnt do this and was not about to re do them. But no harm, still looks good. Hope this helps.

OmniMount OMH TV Mount for 32-Inch to 60-Inch TVs - Silver Review

My first impression of OmniMount OMH TV Mount is that the contents can be intimidating. The kit arrives in a very compact box, complete with some of the most easily understood directions of any self-assembly project in memory.

To cut to the chase, the contents include a portioned off pack with a set of bolts and washers in no less than six compartments. However, this is to accommodate your very own television. I found I had to use less than ten percent of the items provided much to my relief. There are other screws and washers as well as the wall mount, but the operation is mainly simple.

Still, you will need either a Phillip's or conventional screwdriver, a socket wrench (I managed with a pair of pliers, but this is not ideal!) You will also need a pencil, a drill, and a drill bit: either a 1/8 or 3/8th's drill bit (depending on whether or not you mount your TV on the wall or use the "wood stud installation"). You will also need a hammer and balance device.

They say on the product description it takes "ten minutes" to install, but I beg to differ. If you are a "Tool Guy..." or "...Gal," ten minutes seems reasonable, but in all due fairness, I had to spend a lot of time drilling, making pilot holes, etc. into the wall, so your time may vary greatly.

Having my 42'' widescreen television--my first and less than a year old--on the wall is a great perk for me. I have neck issues, and I have far less strain on my neck. It is convenient and comfortable to watch streaming movies, DVD's, and television from my bed.

One minor issue: You may have different results, but when you turn on your Blu-Ray or other DVD player, you may not get immediate access to your provider. You may have to try a website to help you through that. I found that logging out of my provider and logging back in did the trick.

All in all, this is a wonderful development: One that this barely weekend tool warrior can handle. Most likely you will, too.
