We bought some swivel chairs with the swivel attached to a round board and the chair on top of that. Our kids and their friends love spinning on these chairs, of course. But the torque and tipping caused the plates to separate just enough for a bearing to come out. And once one bearing came out, that made it easier for the plates to separate more, causing more bearings to come out. I searched awhile before finding this extra heavy duty swivel which is the right size to replace the cheap ones which came with the chairs. They are a bit pricey, but we would have tossed the chairs otherwise, so it's like getting two chairs for $100.

These swivels seems to be much better quality than the originals. I'm expecting they should last much longer, even with kids. I'll let you know if they fail. If I haven't updated this review, they're still holding up.
