I would like to recount my experience with TV-Protector to try to save everyone else my poor experience. I ordered the 47" TV-Protector from their website, since they were having a 20%-40% off sale, which was cheaper then their price via Amazon Marketplace. As it would appear they are always having a 20%-40% off sale.

The product arrived in just a piece of cardboard wrapped around a sheet of plastic with no protection other than the thin pieces of paper that comes applied to both sides by the manufacturer of the material, which is Optix(tm). When I went to install it, I realized that it came with no instructions and the hook and loop strips were not applied in the proper positions. Instead of there being two strips on either side, there were three strips on the top. I tried to call the company, but the person that answered could not help me and told me that I needed to send an e-mail to customer service. I did so and received an e-mail stating that they would send out the instructions and more hook and loop strips so I could install them in the proper place. As I waited for this e-mail response to come, I realized that the screen protector was 1/8" thick and not the advertised 1/4" thickness. In fact their website touted how much better their product was over the competition's product that was thinner than theirs. They even had a picture of their product and the competition's next to a US penny which made it clear that their product was 1/4" thick and their competition's product was 1/8" thick.

Before I e-mailed them about the fact that I received the wrong product, I saved a copy of their website as a PDF as proof of their advertising. The response that I got from my e-mail arrived over a day later after they had a chance to update their website to remove any reference to the thickness of the material that they used. Their e-mail stated that they switched to a new material that was just as strong as the other material that they used to use, but half the thickness and weight. Being an engineer this did not sit well with me, so off I went to do a little research. What I found was that Optix(tm) is manufactured by Plaskolite and their product catalog states that 1/8" Optix(tm) is approximately 2 to 3 times more impact resistant than double strength window glass, and about 4 to 5 times more impact resistant than wire glass or other glasses and 1/4" Optix(tm) sheet is approximately 9 to 10 times more resistant than wire glass or other glasses. This is in conflict with TV-Protector's website that states that the material that they use is 15 times stronger than 1/4" glass. I wonder what type of glass they are comparing their product to. BTW, they changed their website to state that their product is 15 times stronger than glass with no references to thickness after they received my e-mail. Note that this is different than the description on Amazon's product pages that states that their product is 10 times stronger than 1/4" glass which is consistent with Plaskolite's literature only if the thickness is 1/4".

When the replacement hook and loop strips arrived in the mail there were no instructions included. I then did a little more research and found that TV-Protector and Vizomax are the same company. I found this interesting in that TV-Protector has a FAQ web page that states that TV screen protectors that have a lip on the top block air flow and are bad for your TV. The reason I found this interesting is that the Vizomax TV Protectors have a lip on top. This further reinforced my impression that this is not an honest company.

I then again asked, via e-mail, that they honor the order that I placed for a 1/4" product as I got the impression that they had switched back to 1/4" thick product as their website was updated again to state that their product was 15 times stronger than 1/4" glass (note that their web pages show that the last time they were updated was 08/11/2010, over two years prior to all these updates). I further requested that if they could not honor their advertising and send me the product that I had ordered, that they refund my money. They did not do either; so much for their 45 day money back guarantee. I tried calling their sales and corporate office, but could not get a person to talk to and they did not return my phone calls or my e-mails. Since the ordering of the product through their web site was handled by PayPal, I initiated a dispute through PayPal, but it went nowhere and now I am left with a product I did not want and I have little recourse left to me other than writing this review as a warning to others. I would suggest that you look at TV-Armor as they appear to be a more honest company based on e-mails that I have since exchanged with them. Bottom line: Caveat Emptor.
