Read up on all the mounts for my new Panasonic 60" plasma. Decided on this Omnimount for its build quality, kickstands, low profile, and affordable cost. It is constructed very well, packaged efficiently, and hanging the wall rail was easy. A few observations:
- The kickstands are cool in concept but my 60" TV is too tall to actually prop it away from the wall. That is, when you tilt the TV up to put out the kickstands, the top of the TV runs into the wall before the kickstands can be fully extended. Probably works great on a smaller TV (42-50) but for 60+, they may not work depending on how tall your TV is. You might want to consider using the highest holes on the brackets, raising the pivot point, and providing more clearance.
- The screws used to lock the brackets in place are pretty far down below the top of the TV once it is hung and there isn't much clearance. I needed an 18" screwdriver to reach them, a tool many people may not have laying around.
- The mount comes with plenty of hardware to mount the brackets to different TVs. For mine, one set of bolts was too long and the other was, for my comfort level, a bit too short. I am sure they would work fine but I used a little bit of loctite to hold them in place. Just some peace-of-mind insurance.
- Be careful with the quick release tabs on the bottom of the brackets. They are made of plastic and if you pull too hard on them to get them to engage with the lower rail, they will break (ask me how I know). Partly my fault for pulling too hard but partly a design issue. Relatedly, make sure that you extend the cords out all the way before you hang the TV. My hands were too large to reach behind the TV to get the cords so we had to take it down, extend them, and then remount.
- Having a third person there to help plug in the wires while the other two hold the TV would be very helpful. The mount is so low profile that you have to connect the wires before hanging it and doing that on a 60" TV weighing 80lbs with just two people is awkward.
Overall, I recommend this mount but wish I had known about these "quirks" before installing it. BTW, I called the help number with one question and they answered it quickly and nicely.
