Omnimount PLAY 40DS 30-Inch to 60-Inch Interactive TV Mount Review

Don't be afraid to modify this expensive versatile mount to fit your needs! You may need a hacksaw and dremel tool to get this working correctly, but don't let that steer you away from purchasing this product to have the most adjustable mount on the market (that I could find).

First off the description doesn't tell you what stud spacing the predrilled holes are for. They are slotted and probibly have a good 2 inches of adjustability (I think they are slotted for a 16" to 18" spacing but don't quote me on that), but that still didn't fit my application which had an odd spacing of 12". I just drilled more holes in the sliders, which didn't affect the overal weight capacity of the mount or the range of side to side adjustment.

Secondly, the omnimount is set up to work with a "Vesa" mounting interface using a keyhole and knob (key) system. This is where I ran into problem number 1. The knob on the tv side of the Vesa mount wouldn't completely seat into the keyhole on the omimount side. This prevented the installation of the safety screw that stops the tv from rotating beyond a few degrees. There is even warning stickers telling you this screw must be installed. It seems the omnimount keyhole wasn't machined to the right diameter to accept the knob. Some people may even elect to ignore the warnings and leave this screw out if they plan on rotating the tv to landscape. I had to use a dremel to shave off a bit of metal. Now the screw fits and everybody is safe.

Thirdly, to mount the Vesa mounting interface to the tv, 4 spider legs are included. This is where problem number 2 reared its ugly head. The lower spider legs were too long to mount to the Samsung 55" tv which uses the 400x400 pattern. The spider legs had to be cut with a hacksaw.

Let me tell you the mount is wonderfull. I was scared to start drilling and cutting this ultra expensive mount but I am glad I did. I love the range of adjustablilty and it gets my tv perfectly centered above my fireplace. No other mount would of been able to work in my situation. Thanks OMNIMOUNT, but please fix the keyhole diameter.
